Our students at Sanjay College of Pharmacy, are involved in development of anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic drugs of natural origin. We are extracting the medicinal plants by successive solvent extraction technique and the extracts so obtained are screened on laboratory animals such as rats mice, Guinea pigs, for the above said biological activities using standard pharmacological protocols. We are maintaining our own animal house with permission of CPCSEA, Chennai. Some of the extracts of the plants have shown very good potential. Now we are in process of isolation of pure medicinal compounds from the biologically active fractions/extracts. These obtained compounds would be tested individually for the activities by in-vitro methods. We are also writing a project to submit to DBT, Govt of India with regard to development of anti-diabetic drugs of natural origin from traditional medicinal plants.
